Casa Cristiana - Alghero & the North West
Casa Cristiana is a real sight to behold: set in a huge expanse of olive groves, this curious and alluring building has a character all of its own. The interior of this former monastery is striking and unique – set on four floors it combines an understated elegance with an almost gothic grandeur. The lounge area is all whitewashed walls, tiled floors and wooden furniture; the first floor bedroom has a circular bed and an exquisite open fireplace; the second floor houses three bedrooms all with great views of the gardens and surrounding countryside; and the last bedroom can be found in the top of the old tower. With its “eagle-nest” position above the tower, the roof terrace affords spectacular views across Capo Caccia as well as fabulous sunsets.
The exterior features a large shaded terrace and barbecue area that hugs the front of the property and overlooks an immaculately kept lawn. This opens out into the wider area of the gardens, which are quite something: olive groves stretch to the horizon, many in neat formal rows; berried myrtle bushes and blooming oleanders are everywhere apparent and the air is filled with the scent of rosemary and lavender. The cobbled streets and restaurants of Alghero are only a matter of minutes away by car, as are the glorious beaches dotted along the coastline.
