Aloni Cottages, Nr Fiskardo - Kefalonia
Aloni is the Greek word for ‘threshing floor’, a circle of carefully laid flagstones with a post in the middle usually built on a rise to catch the wind, around which a donkey was led to separate the wheat from the chaff. Spiros and Georgia were careful to preserve this important piece of island history when they built houses amongst the olive trees. Near the small village of Antipata on the hill above Fiskardo, it has become a focal point of the properties, minus the donkey of course!
There is a delightful rural appeal, with trees surrounding the houses through which the island of Lefkada can be seen. The houses are set off the coastal road but are only a short walk from the village of Antipata where there are a couple of tavernas and a mini market. Dafnoudi Beach can also be reached by a pleasant walk of about twenty five minutes, through the delightful cypress forest.
Spiros and Georgia live in the upstairs apartment of one house whilst the lower apartment, “Georgia”, is completely separate. Georgia is a spacious and comfortable two bedroom apartment. There is a partly shaded terrace to the front and the one twin bedroom has French windows with its own patio and sea views. The couple respect the privacy of their guests and are lovely, warm people.
Spiros and Georgia have named two delightful detached cottages on the land adjoining their home after their children, Apostoli and Eleni. Each has two bedrooms with French windows leading onto a shaded patio. The rooms are spacious and airy and have authentic touches, such as traditional wrought iron beds. The dining/ living room area is comfortable and beautifully laid out, with carvings made from local olive wood and a fully fitted kitchen area with washing machine.
Being west facing, all the houses enjoy beautiful evening skies. The shared swimming pool completes the appeal of this wonderful location.
